There are, however, instances where specialized lab testing can be useful in uncovering complicated nutritional issues. As part of your individual program, testing results may become integral to determining causes of imbalances, such as: hormonal, adrenal, and gut issues. These specialized tests can help to create a more tailored care protocol.  

 

Most of these tests can be sent by mail and done at home. A kit will be drop shipped directly to you, you provide a sample and return.

The DUTCH test is a leader in sex and stress hormones testing. It is well recognized for its easy sample collection methods and comprehensive reporting. The name stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. In addition to measuring hormone levels, this test also takes into consideration metabolites (metabolites are broken down products of hormones) and specific nutrients (which are necessary for our body to use the hormones).  Adrenal and sex hormones play a vital role in many aspects of our life that if left unbalanced, can leave us feeling anxious, tired, moody, and fatigued among many other health issues. GI Map by Diagnostic Solutions

 

What is tested:

GI-MAP was designed to detect microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance or contributing to illness as well as indicators of digestion, absorption, inflammation, and immune function. GI-MAP quantifies bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites using qPCR.0

 

This is a comprehensive digestive test. It includes enzyme function, fat breakdown, markers for immunity and inflammation as well as testing for bacteria, yeast, worms and viruses. Requires a single small stool sample.

The FIT (Food Inflammation Test) is a patented, multi-pathway delayed food sensitivity test. The FIT Test is a simple blood test that is available as a finger-prick test.

Heavy Metals Hair Test by Great Plains Laboratory

 

What is tested:

Toxic elements may be 200-300 times more highly concentrated in hair than in blood or urine. Therefore, hair is the tissue of choice for detection of recent exposure to elements such as arsenic, aluminum, cadmium, lead, antimony, and mercury. 

Test requires a snip of hair equivalent to about 1 tablespoon.
